Abstract

Importance of Primary Care in the detection and management of people with self-injurious ideation – a bibliographic review.

Goal:

Carry out a bibliographic review about self-harm ideation and suicide, focusing on verifying its possible approach from Primary Care.

Design: bibliographic review.

Setting: Primary Care.

Results: no studies have been found that support, based on objective data, that Primary Care is an ideal means to address self-harm ideation and suicide.

Conclusions: although Primary Care, due to its characteristics, seems to be a good means for the detection and support of people with self-harm ideation, it has limitations that make it difficult for this to be carried out. Furthermore, no scientific evidence has been found to confirm this hypothesis.

Keywords: Suicide, Prevention, Primary Care.
