Title: Community intervention through the implementation of a water-based maternal preparation program for labor and birth in Sanxenxo. A pioneering experience in the area resulting from multidisciplinary collaboration.
Objectives: To offer pregnant women the opportunity to engage in water-based physical exercise, maintaining or improving their physical condition. To work on muscle strength and improve breathing techniques in preparation for labor. To enhance mother-child bonding. To share experiences with fellow participants.
Design: Consecutive sampling based on the recruitment of all pregnant women who meet the inclusion criteria and do not meet exclusion criteria.
Site: Primary care, community-based.
Measurements/Methods: Conducting guided pool activities twice a month and filling up a follow-up survey.
Results: The survey results show favorable opinions regarding the health benefits during pregnancy, the safety of the activities, and overall satisfaction and reputation of the program.
Conclusions: Engaging in water-based exercise is safe and beneficial for the health of pregnant women, improves mother-child bonding, and enhances socialization among participants.
